Description

The Inclusive STEM Teaching Project, a NSF Improving Undergraduate STEM Education program, is hosting a Massive Open Online Course (MOOC), a self-paced class designed to advance the awareness, self-efficacy, and ability of STEM faculty, postdocs, graduate students, and staff to cultivate inclusive learning environments for their students.

This local learning community is designed to help UW-Madison participants enrolled in the Inclusive STEM Teaching Project MOOC process and extend their learning from the course in a group setting. While the course examples and case studies focus on STEM, the core principles are broadly applicable, and participants from all disciplinary backgrounds across UW-Madison are welcome (faculty, instructors, graduate students, postdocs, staff).

Participants in this course and learning community will…

  • Reflect on their own and their students’ identities and experiences
  • Question their assumptions about all aspects of instruction
  • Identify and implement learner-centered structures and strategies
  • Apply principles of evidence-based inclusive teaching
  • Use their student learning data and feedback to inform pedagogical and curricular choices

Estimated time commitment: 3-4 hours per week for 6 weeks

  • 2 hours per week engaging in the Inclusive STEM Teaching Project MOOC
  • 90-minute learning community discussion

Please visit www.inclusivestemteaching.org for more details about the course content, expectations, and learning communities.
