Getting The Job: Building Your CV And Cover Letter

Registration is closed for this event
Your curriculum vitae (CV) and cover letter act together as your first impression. Learn how to make sure your CV and cover letter are effectively communicating your unique value to your prospective employers.

Location: TBD on campus

Your curriculum vitae (CV) and cover letter together offer a  first impression to your reader. When written effectively, these materials communicate how your skills, specializations, and experiences make you a valuable asset to your prospective employer. Especially in academia, where a single job opening can receive hundreds of applicants, it’s worth putting in extra effort to make sure your CV and cover letter  work as complementary pieces of your story.

In addition to familiarizing participants with the formats, purposes, and structures of various academic and professional CVs and cover letters, special attention in this workshop will be placed on how to effectively highlight your teaching and mentoring experiences and professional development. Participants are encouraged to bring a draft copy of their CV and a cover letter for a (hypothetical or real) position of interest.

This workshop is one event in the Getting The Job series, designed specifically for graduate students and postdocs preparing for the job search. Check out the other events in the series:
